Kultur 1

I found the German perspective on queuing fairly humorous in how seemingly contradictory to their culture it is. I visited Germany a few times many years ago when I lived in Italy and I remember a tip jar in a restroom that was regularly and customarily tipped by the patrons of a restaurant. Similarly I'd heard many people don't lock their doors because it is nearly inconceivable to think another German would steal from them. Granted, this is merely what was portrayed to me and not necessarily reality, but it's interesting how they are absolutely relentless when it comes to standing in line. It seems their behavior with busses is akin to students here trying to get on a Bursley-Baits bus during finals week.

Driving in Germany sounded very exciting, for better or worse. In some ways it reminds me of Italy in that the drivers simply don't care about the safety of anybody else on the road. Crosswalks seemed something of a joke in Italy, and attempting to cross a road anywhere else was to enter in a suicide pact. Still, I'd be interested to see how further of a commute some people have in Germany compared to America if they are capable of using the autobahn to go over 120mph. I would definitely like to try driving there....once.
