Kultur 10, Gabrielle Lewis

I am now convinced that Germany is the coolest country. Where else in the world can one expect to see drunken men (fathers or not) ambling around the streets on Father's Day? If Americans adopted this tradition, Father's Day could be a major factor in boosting our fiscal situation... I jest, of course. I can't help but wonder how lovely it would be to bond with my Dad over some whisky on the sacred day. Any time with him is wonderful though, so I'll take what I can get.

I remember skyping with a German friend of mine a few months ago. It was Sunday morning and he was extremely hungover, so naturally food was high on the priority list. I kept asking him why he wouldn't venture out into the sunlight for a bit of breakfast, and he exasperatedly responded that nothing near him was open! I didn't believe him at first. Surely something must be open at 10am on a Sunday! He assured me there wasn't and had to assuage his appetite with a teeny bowl of muesli. Needless to say, he was not amused.
