Kultur 11

I had no idea that there was such negative stereotypes about East- and West- Berliners, which seems kind of ignorant, but it reminds me of the secession of the South/Civil War that divided the country and still to this day serves as a fairly large schism. The South is kind of seen as hicks, resistant to change, and for some disgusting reason, proud of the Confederacy. The percentage of Berliners who wish that the country was still divided is astounding. Perhaps due to the fact that I am a Northerner, I cannot think of any negative stereotypes (perhaps because there are none, the North is rad)
The way the people from West Germany view the East is similar to the illogical American stereotypes of Mexicans, which is, like so many stereotypes, untrue. It's really fascinating to see such a division in another country. Especially one that has been portrayed as much better off since reunification. It almost makes me wonder if things would be better if the North and South were still divided; almost, but then I shudder to think of the overwhelmingly negative consequences
