Kultur 2

The article on German students was interesting, although the article is a bit unclear about a few things. Are they including postgraduate studies in the many years of university study? If so that would be more acceptable, because completing an undergraduate degree at age 30 is just seems like a bad idea all around.

I didn't realize saunas were as popular in Germany as in Scandinavia, but I guess Germany (at least in the northern parts) gets pretty cold in the winter. Saunas are quite prevalent in Michigan as well (there's a sauna in the CCRB locker room for instance), so the article is more relatable than other culture posts. I think they're overplaying the nudity a bit; towels are still worn so it's not that different than having a bathing suit on. I think Japan wins out with their nude bathing (although gender separated) culture; Germans seem too conservative to have anything like that. I don't think Germany is into nude beach going either, but then again the Baltic Sea isn't as convenient as say the south of France.

I was surprised by the article on the skepticism of modern medicine in Germany, since the country has the reputation of rationalization and being scientifically minded (and Bayer). The thing about drafts was also weird, kind of reminiscent of fan death in Korea. Hopefully they're just over exaggerating, because I hope nothing like the vaccine/autism myth comes out of Germany.
