Kultur 9

After reading the article about Germans and bureaucracy, I can only say: "The Germans strike again!" Admirers of perfection, it is not surprising that the appropriate presentation of credentials is also part of the system. I guess a CV and a cover letter is not enough. If you want to get a job, you have to show your potential employer all your records since elementary school. Something is missing? Tough luck! Although, I do not really worry about Germans, since they keep track of everything and not only their credentials. Despite being exaggerating, this behavior is not necessarily bad; being able to present any official paper that is requested, shows signs of perfect organization. Personally, I try to keep track of all my records, but I am sure I do not meet the German requirements.
Regarding the article about the neighbors in Germany I feel a bit relieved that it does not only happen in Greece. I know from the hard way, that once the glass breaks between the neighbors, it cannot be mended. Quiet times are similar in Greece, and especially out of Athens, where a 3-5 pm quiet time is always applied, since stores and other businesses close as part of an afternoon break. In Greece however, cleaning the sidewalks and the way you wash your car is your responsibility. The neighbors do not care beyond the limits of their property but in the end of the day if you are just passing by, the house which is better taken care of will make a better impression.
In case of the matter of patriotism, I must say, after visiting Berlin in 2009 that it is true; I did not see any German flags hanging except from the parliament. I find it strange not to be patriotic. Not at levels such as the USA and "God Bless America" which is heard everywhere around the country, or as in the U.K where the British Flag hangs literally everywhere, but I find it impossible to hesitate when asked if you love your country. After all, in most of the cases, you grow up in your country and therefore it is home. Your country represents many memories, and saying that you do not love it is like saying you do not like your life experiences.
Regarding Vienna, it is a city with a lot of history and culture. Many composers, filmmakers and artists come from Vienna. I have not visited the city yet, although I have visited other places in Austria. After visiting Germany and Austria, I must say that the behavior of Germans and Austrians is quite similar, and it is not easy to recognize whether someone is Austrian or German. What I can say for sure after having visited, is that Austria has some of the most beautiful and organized ski resorts in the world, such as Kitzbuhel, Innsbruck, Lech,  and Ischgl.
